Weekends, my husband journeys to the east end of Long Island, NY to cheer up and check on his ailing parents. I often accompany him. It’s a lovely ride as long as you go early enough so as to beat the streams of cars heading out to enjoy harvest festivals, apple and pumpkin picking. So, if you find yourself on Long Island one weekend and you’d like to pick up a few more books for your tbr (to be read) list than have I got the place for you.
Just follow the sunflower stands all the way out toward the east end. In the quiet town of Southold along the rocky shores of the Island’s North Fork sits a hidden gem.
Nestled behind the Southold Library, and manned by volunteers from the Southold Friends of the Library, The Book Cottage holds a a treasure trove of literary gems. Shelves of books line the walls. They start at the ceiling and go all the way down to the floor! If you’re a fan of mystery, romance, science fiction, thrillers, classics, popular literature, gardening, cooking, history, biographies, or children’s books you need to find a way to get yourself there. The cottage is open on for both donations and sales on Wednesday’s 11-3 and Saturdays’s from 10-3.
Do you have a secondhand book store in your area that you love to haunt? Please share about it . I’m always on the lookout for more books.
